4. Club Events

Celtic Junior Tri has held a novice Aquathlon Series at Cymmer Swimming pool. It was open to any young athlete and parent who wished to experience racing in a multi-discpline sporting activity and who were interested in joining Celtic junior Tri. Below is a race report from one the the events:

Celtic Junior Tri Aquathlon Series Race 2

The Tri-stars moaned that the last race was over to quick so to make it a bit harder I added another run loop into their various categories.

The competition is hot within the tri-stars, each one watching the others every move, breath even down to the position of the towel and trainers.[ I believe shades had been mentioned in despatches]. The first swim so some good times posted and what was great, they all concentrated on technique. I thought yes they’ve got it! That was a proud moment. Cerys was 1st out of the water , with Rebecca some 12 sec later determined to get away from twin sister Ria, she new she’d have to move quick because sister dear has the edge on the run. [Not this time was the relief] Craig and Steffan, finish together, neck and neck through the door the battle was on. This was Steffan’s 1st race and boy did he run, entering in front of Craig. Holly worked hard her stroke was looking lovely and on her final swim, well done! Then came the final swim – that was when technique went out the window, it was a survival process of get to the finish.

All finished with smiles on their faces which is what it is all about.

Next Date for your Diaries Friday 24th Aug 2007, The distance will be the same so you will be able to measure your fitness.

The Tri-ers made their minds up before the start it was eyeballs out, having the confidence from the previous series it was full steam ahead. Hannah leads up the lane lapping a few in the process, knocking 13sec off her 200m swim time [well done] Simon Thomas exits the water looking sharp in his new Celtic Tri suit Followed by Adrian and Carol Vaynor, Adrian knocking off 36sec and Carol 19 secs fantastic. Paul was next with an improvement of 5secs.

Out onto the run again all making vast improvements and again in the swim with Carol edging past Adrian as he put his goggles on, making sure of clear water, with Paul and Simon closing the gap. Hannah held her 1st position but those little legs of hers protested and went on strike on the last run. Closing down on her Carol Vaynor run [with even shorter legs]. Followed by Adrian determined not to let Paul pass him. Simon of course being the gentleman that he is, having total respect for his elders allowed them their positions.

Well done all Vast improvements!

The Main Event – Serious stuff here! Wow look at all those Celtic Tri Kits – Fantastic [where’s Peter Penguin with his camera]?

[The total time has your start order seconds taken off, adjust your 400m swim time accordingly].

As you all are aware Drafting is only allowed in the swim and did lane 1 take all the advantages! There was Jack swimming on Alex feet with Grant and Craig in hot pursuit. Annemarie getting caught up in the battle- with Alex trying to sabotage her swim by coming down towards her doing backstroke. None the less

She is a survivor and like always takes everything in her stride. Jack takes up a 50 sec lead on the swim with the Twins in pursuit and Annemarie close on their heels. Mr Richards exits the water and Opppppsssssssss I make Dale who would have been out the same time as Dai do another 2 lengths soooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry ! Adam Newton no stranger to us joins the club and again unfortunately is thrown in the deep end exits the water in a respectable time following his long break. Terry and Ieuan exits within seconds of one another, With Mark [ dolphin tattoo] and Steve battling it out in their lane. All out on the run, the rain is not kind no the wind and running around Cymmer Pool half naked is a treat for the local community. Jack is flying, times are looking good overall, Adam and especially Dale posting excellent times. The battle between Grant & Craig is hotting up with just 3 seconds between them. Steve has made up time on the run so he edges in front of Mark can he keep it up, pressure is on as he rises from the water like a monster from the deep.[Have you seen Steve when he’s swimming at pace he hunches up his shoulders with his mouth gapping hoping that he can just take in some air].

Great to see so many taking part and enjoying! Well done.
