Aberavon
Seafront |
| |
Port
Talbot and the Afan valley is a very distinct marketing area
of the county borough, with its country parks. Aberavon Beach
is one of Wales’ longest sandy beaches. Aberavon Seafront
boasts an Aquadome leisure facility, an adventure playground,
multi screen cinema, grassed open areas, safe cycling along
the promenade and views over Swansea Bay. The golden sands
of Aberavon are a popular holiday and weekend destination
throughout much of the year.
Port Talbot was a mecca for summer visitors back in the sixties
and seventies when the traditional ‘bucket and spade’
holiday was popular. Today the area is radically changing
with developments to the seafront, town centre and its industrial
base. The docks are always a hive of activity and boast a
modern, deep-water harbour created by a mile-long breakwater.
A suburb of the town, Aberavon, is fast becoming the county’s
focus for leisure activities. The Aberavon seafront is at
the forefront of ambitious plans to transform areas along
the promenade into quality leisure developments for its residents.
The Council has targeted a series of initiatives in the form
of a number of exciting projects and attractions to revitalise
and bring new life to the seafront to make it once again one
of South Wales’ premier seaside resorts. Aberavon is
home to the ever-popular Afan Lido, Wales’ premier leisure
complex. The Lido is a large sports centre, which has extensive
sports facilities to offer including its Aquadome indoor swimming
pool, spa pools, an indoor bowls stadium and a full size astro-turf
pitch. The Lido houses big concerts and events as well as
sports and it is now Wales’ premier leisure complex.
New facilities such as the Aquadome leisure centre and Hollywood
Park multi screen cinema are providing a perfect complement
to the extensive sandy beach.
